Apple Season ft. Kate Hadfield Designs

 

 

Hello everyone!  Today I'm sharing a fall inspired card!  Where I

live September starts apple season!  I used products from

 

Kate Hadfield Designs

Fruitilicious Tapes - Apples

Fruit Bowl

This seasonal card was so easy to make!  Let me show you how!

 

I first printed out what I needed.  I printed out the apple from Fruit Bowl

in color because I knew it would match the tape perfectly.

 

 

I cut the apple out leaving a narrow white border.  I trimmed out the

background, a white center piece for the middle of the card, and 

several pieces of the tape.  I trimmed out a piece of light creamy

yellow card stock from my stash as a mat under the front of

my main panel.

 

 

I took that white piece of card stock and used a polka dot embossing

folder to give it more texture.  That completed my base.

 

 

I adhered the apple using some thin foam squares.  I felt the borders of

the white panel and the apple tape on it needed something to make then

stand out.  I had these slivers of card stock in my stash and I felt they

really went well with the design and color.  The strips are about 1/8”.  I

also added some red enamel dots.  I also used a white acrylic pen to add

some very defined high-lights to the apple and a few dots near the center

of the apple slice.  I left this card with no sentiment.

A Pirate's Life! ft. Kate Hadfield Designs

 

Hello everyone!  Today I'm sharing this adorable

pirate-themed wiper card.  A fun card to put

together!   I'll be using products from

Kate Hadfield Designs

A Pirate's Life Digital Stamp Set

This is a fun interactive card that is sure to

please the recipient!  Let me show you how

I made my card!

 

 

I started with the base.  First, let my say that you really need

to die cut this using a heavier white card stock.  Probably

around 100lb.  I used my Xpress-it card stock, as that is

usually what I use, but it proved to be a bit too thin.  Where

the card was scored, it started to break down.  The back of

this card has the seams taped to hold it together!!! lol.  I 

did, obviously use a die set.  Many companies offer some sort

of version of a wiper card die set.  I did extend the height of

one piece (the back) so it would be taller.  I did this by partially

die cutting one end only and then moving the die to the desired

height and cutting again.  I die cut the front panel with 

wave die.

 

 

I stenciled these 2 pieces using a wave stencil for the shorter front

piece and a cloud stencil for the background.  I also folded the

scored lines.  The front is folded the opposite way of the back. 

 

 

I printed out my elements that I wanted to use onto white card stock.

 

 

I started my coloring with Copic markers.  I realized there was not

a lot of colorful elements so I varied the browns that I used.

 

 

The elements were done and I fussy cut the image and went around it

with a black marker.  I adhered some confetti to the port holes on

the ship.  I added Stickles to the chest of gold.

 

 

I adhered the left side and then adhered my wiper mechanism.  I cut

most of the top off and replaced it with clear acetate.  Then I glued my

ship to the mechanism.  I had to cut off the top layer of flags (😟)

so this would fit when closed.  

 

 

Next I adhered the right side.  The bottom does not get any

adhesive on it at all.  Instead of cutting the sentiment I ripped

the paper and colored it with the same colors of the sand and adhered

it to the front left side on the bottom.

 

 

This card was a bit complicated and I should have die cut one in

just plain white first, so I could see how things worked.  But I

love how it came out!

 

This is a great card to give to your little pirate.  I would love to hear

Hello everyone!  Is everyone getting a big dose of spring?  I hope

so.  The winter seemed harsh this year but spring is here!  I’ve made a 

fun project today using products from

Kate Hadfield Designs 

Animal Pals-Owls stamp Set

This little card took a few twists and turns because of the sentiment. Let 

me show you how I made it.

 

 

I composed my images and used a background from Weekend At Home,

which is all background paper.  All along I was going to make this a

spring card – and use a sentiment like Happy Spring or Spring

Greetings.  So, I used the tree from the Animal Pals - Owls

and it has a large hole in the middle of it.  I composed my card panel

so that the tree would be over to the right far enough to just get a

sliver of the tree hole.  You can see in the picture that the hole is blue.  I went over it a 

few times with a dark Copic marker to get rid of the blue.  I used the artistic 

effects on the background to get the sky to fade on the left.  I also altered the color of 

the sky in the computer before I printed it out onto white card stock.

 

 

Time to start coloring – always my favorite part!!  I wanted to keep the

coloring light and springy so I didn’t darken as I normally would.  

 

 

I colored the nest, then the tree bark and then the leaves.  Then I got to the

birds.  I colored them and didn’t like them at all.  So I reprinted the

panel in black and white and colored them again to fussy cut and adhere

over the original ones.  Those didn’t come out good either.  😱 Finally

I decided to printed them out onto patterned paper.  I used a peachy

color with white flecks.  Then I shaded with soft reds.  I cut them out

and adhered them over the original ones.  Finally they looked good! After

I fussy cut them, I edged them with a black marker.

 

 

My intention for the sentiment was to refer to spring.  That didn’t happen

either.   This poor card was kind of going sideways!  I did find the

sentiment that I used in my stash and used a die from my stash.  So,

it became a pregnant/baby congrats card instead.  

 

 

I die cut some clouds with a die from my stash and cut off the ends of 2 of them

so that they would all not look the same.  I used Enamel Accents for tiny

green dots around the leaves of the trees and I used Glossy Accents to

put over the eggs.  I popped up the sentiment on foam tape and adhered

my panel to a white top folding card base.  I used a white gel pen for a few

highlights on the birds and my card was done!

 

 

I hope I’ve inspired you to create something pretty even when it starts

to give you trouble.  It’s important to keep going!!!

Spring Bouquet ft. Kate Hadfield Designs

 

 

Hello everyone!  Spring is on its way and I am so glad.  Winter

seemed especially gray and dark this year.  To make my

center cut-away card I'll be using products from

Kate Hadfield Designs

Hoppy Easter stamp set

 This is a very versatile set with lots of images.  Let me show you how I 

made this fun fold card! 

I started by composing my images.  I copied and pasted the grass

stamp several times.  I printed this out onto white card stock.

 

 

Next I took a 6 ½” x 5” white notecard and cut away 1 ¼” on

each side of the front.  This leaves a nice 4” center panel on the

base to put the focal on.

 

 

At this point I die cut my image with a 3 ½” x 4 ½” fancy

rectangle die.  Then I chose my papers.  I needed 2 that went

well together.  I chose the blue for the center panel because

I didn’t want to color the background of my image.  And having

a blue panel underneath gives the idea of sky on a spring day!

I deliberately chose the plaid paper with a “Spring” color palette.

 

 

I started my coloring by identifying the main colors and placement.

I color matched to the plaid paper.

 

 

The coloring was really quite quick.  I did 2, 3 and 4 color blends

for the elements.

 

 

This image colored up nicely and it looked really good with the

plaid paper.  At this point, I covered the center panel on the card 

base with the blue and the side panels plaid.  My side panels

were only about 1/8” underneath the center flap.

 

The side pieces of plaid paper could be edged with a cute

edge die.

For embellishments I adhered tiny yellow flowers amongst

the grass with Stickles in the centers along with some green twine. 

 And I  placed 3 tiny butterfly sequins around the flowers in the can.  I

 did not add a sentiment, but this could be used as a get well card

and so many other occasions.  I foam taped the focal to the center

blue panel of the card.

 

 

This card project worked up quite quickly.  With only a smaller

focal, the card base and papers did the rest of the work!  I hope

I’ve inspired you to try making one of these side cut-away cards.
