Hello everyone! I'm so excited to be a Guest Designer for Joy Clair Designs
throughout the month of March! For my first project I chose to use a
digistamp called "You Are". This is such a stunning image and really
makes a statement on your card!
I love this image and the sentiments. I decided to watercolor this blossom
with my Karin markers. I've had them for a while but had not used them and
I really thought they were exactly like Zig markers. I couldn't have been
more wrong!
I printed out my image onto watercolor paper. Lately I've really been liking
Fluid Watercolor paper. I changed the color of the image to a medium light
gray. It doesn't give the appearance of no line, but the gray is much softer
and that makes the image softer. I left the sentiment black.
Off to the side I tested the colors I wanted to use.
Right away I could tell these were not like the Zig markers. These Karin
markers actually work on watercolor paper! So, to start I scribbled my
markers onto a palette and used them that way. I used a #2 paintbrush and water.
I painted each petal separately. I did this because by doing it this way,
no two petals would be alike. Each one would be different - which is
just what I wanted!
And I didn't paint one beside each other. I made sure that each petal was
dry before painting the one next to it.
The colors I chose: Skin, Rose Pink, Burgundy and Copper Brown.
Some of the lines of the drawing were quite thick. I took either the
Burgundy or the Copper Brown and put the marker directly to those
areas. It really gave the piece some depth.
Once the painting was done and dry, I used a gold gel pen and defined the
lines in the center and went over some of the lines on the petals. I love how
it looked! I cut the panel down to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" using a stitched die.
It still needed a bit of definition so I used gold peel-offs around the inner
edge of the stitched line.
I thought about adding gold splatter, but this took me a fair amount of time
and I didn't want to chance ruining it somehow! 😟
I adhered the panel onto a white A2 size top folding note card. And my car
was finished!
This design lends itself to so many different color ways. I love using
digital stamps because they are so versatile! You can find this design
and many others in the Digital section of Joy Clair Designs!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll be posting more as the
month progresses!

Beautiful! What kind of pen is the pretty brown one?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Actually the pen is pink shot through with sparkley gold. It's glass and comes from Italy!
