Hello Everyone
I hope everyone is doing well and preparing for winter. The November 2018 Love From Lizi card kit has been released and it's sold out! I encourage you to give Lizi's kits a try. They are so worth it! They are released the 19th of each month!
This month's kit was winter themed and had muted hues of blue and green with woodland animals. It's very different and quite beautiful! I really wanted to make a shadow box card with it.
Supplies:
- 2 A2 size white card bases (side folding) - one with no score lines or folds
- Patterned paper - I used 4 different coordinating pieces
- Patterned paper appropriate for inside of window
- An apature/window die
- Stitched banner die
- Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard
- Sentiment stamp - mine was from the kit
- Clear embossing ink
- White embossing powder
- Glue/tape runner
- Scoring board w/tool
- Paper trimmer
I started by scoring and cutting my card bases. One card base needs to be side folding and one end needs 1/2" trimmed off. The other needs to be scored at 1/2", 4.25" and 4.75". Trim off a little sliver on the 1/2" fold and make sure to flatten out the folds with a bone folder.
The folder piece that has only one fold in it and 1/2" cut off is the front and back of your card. On the full size piece, trim and glue/tape the paper for the front of the card. The other piece should resemble a box with 1/2" sides. Making sure the 1/2" end is on the left and the fold is down, trim and glue/tape the paper for the inside of the card. I really recommend glue on this piece as this is the one which will be die cut to create the frame...which is the next step. Center and die cut with the frame die on the part that has a 1/2" fold on either side.
Here are my 2 pieces: the front of the card is on the left and the inside shadow box is on the right. The next step is to glue the inside paper of the box. Make sure it's centered and will appear through your window properly.
Its now time to glue your cards together. The 1/2" flap of the inner card needs to be glued or taped to the inside of the front of the main card. Make sure this is lined up right against the fold of the main card and the top and bottom are even. Then glue the back of this inner card to the inside of the main card.
It should look like this after gluing. And your whole card should lay flat for mailing because of the trimming off at the beginning of the process.
Next I embellished by first cutting a banner with a stitched banner die and heat embossing with white embossing powder my sentiment. I glued this on the front of the card. Then I added dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops in White Blizzard to the banner and also to my scene inside the card. That finished my shadow box card.
The possibilities for this card are endless. Different dies, different papers...maybe a multilevel scene inside. This was so fun to make! I would love to see what you come up with for a shadow box card.
Until next time,
Happy paper crafting and remember....it's only paper!
Betsy
