This was so much fun! I have to say that 3-D projects like this sometimes scare me. I am a card maker after all! But this turned out to be a creative release in a different way.
I started by spraying the 2 pieces - the quote and the stand - with Novu Shimmer Spray in Nebula Blue and Fresh Pear. I was quite splotchy with this as I wanted both colors to show. I though about spraying 2 coats on and decided that I liked the color of the MDF showing through slightly in places. It helped retain the more mottled look I was going for.
The next step was to apply Gilding Polish by Creative Expressions in Gold Treasure. I love using this polish because it has a handy applicator in the lid. I started out by just touching it slightly here and there on the stars only. Then I realized that the stars that are tucked into the text would not work quite as well. That was when I decided to rub it here and there with the polish and I really liked the look it gave me.
In keeping with the starry theme I next chose to adhere star sequins in 3 different sizes. I had some that were about 1/4" and raised up. I put these on the stars themselves. The added the next size down and the tiny ones randomly all over, including the base. I also added Nuvo Crystal Glaze to the dots over all of the "i"s and did a light mist of clear glitter over top.
I still felt it needed a bit more so I used Nuvo Stone Drops in Lady Liberty applied with a Q-tip and smeared it on in random places all over the piece and base. These definitely don't look like much at first, but once they dry they lightened in color and the texture of them really shows.
These are lightweight but quite sturdy and do not tip at all. There are various quotes on the Topflight Stamps website: www.topflightstamps.com and there are holiday themed ones as well.
